The rising sun spills into the rake of a skewed vanishing point, and the romance of rail travel unfolds into another day.  McCurry takes on a scene already made romantic by many other photographers in train stations around the world.  He heightens the typically dark allure of the scene with a vibrant sun, extended shadows, and the pattern of repeating cuts of light and shade.  The pictures is one of what McCurry calls his ‘notebook entries,’ made for a book, The Imperial Way, which he created with the writer Paul Theroux.
