VP Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition and permanent collection of color photographs by world-renowned photojournalist Steve McCurry.
Steve McCurry’s direct and uncompromising style of shooting has produced many memorable images, many of which have graced the covers and inside pages of National Geographic Magazine. Best known for his evocative color photographs, McCurry captures the essence of human struggle and joy in the finest documentary tradition. Many of his breathtaking images like the famous Afghan Girl have become modern day icons.
A high point in his career was the rediscovery of the previously unidentified Afghan refugee girl that many have described as the most recognizable photograph in the world today. When McCurry finally located Sharbat Gula after almost two decades, he said, “Her skin is weathered; there are wrinkles now, but she is still as striking as she was all those years ago.”
This is the first exhibition of Steve McCurry’s color photographs in the Midwest. Accompanying the show will be his recently published book, Looking East (Phaidon Press, 2006).
